I like to encourage every nail tech I meet to take time out of their busy schedules and rejuvenate their love of the profession by taking classes and brush up on skills as well as learning new ones. Brenda Brock Farmaesthetics® - Formulator and CEO |

Brenda Brock, Farmaesthetics’ Founder, Formulator and CEO, is the daughter of a 7th generation farming family from Texas, with roots steeped in herbal traditions.
Her technical background in chemistry stems from her prenursing studies at The University of Texas at Austin and her employment while in school, at the UT Chemistry Department.
Her love of folklore, storytelling and writing led to a change of majors and a move to New York City where she studied and enjoyed a 10-year career as a working actress and produced playwright. Following four years on the ABC Daytime Drama, One Life to Live, and two Daytime Award nominations for Best Actress, Ms.Brock longed to return to her rural roots. She moved to Rhode Island, restored an old Victorian farmhouse, began growing herbs and flowers and making her skincare preparations, utilizing the rural traditions of American “kitchen chemistry,” which has been a life-long passion.
Ms. Brock first made her herbal products available to customers, other than friends and family, in the summer of 1999 at her friend’s organic farmstand in rural RI. She created her seasonal line using pristine organic harvests from the oceanside farms. To meet growing year-round demand for her products, she took her “recipes” to dermatological laboratories and successfully re-formulated her products for large batch production while retaining their 100% natural status and achieving a certified two-year shelf life.
A noted trailblazer in the industry of “green” cosmetic manufacturing, Ms. Brock is a sought after speaker. She has addressed the Cosmeceutical Conference in New York City, speaking on behalf of the “green” luxury skincare category. She is also known for her considerable contributions as a consultant and collaborator with destination spas as they move toward sustainability and LEEDS certification. Clients include Urban Outfitter’s terrain & The Mayflower Spa.\
Ms. Brock’s achievements include consideration for Good Housekeeping Magazine’s “Female Entrepreneur of the Year” Award & Luxury SpaFinder’s featured story of Ms. Brock as one of “The Purists”, citing her as an entrepreneur revolutionizing today’s natural skincare industry. Farmaesthetics products made the cover of Cosmetic/Personal Care Packaging Magazine for their leadership position in “green” packaging design, and, in 2009, Ms. Brock & Farmaesthetics were named in Time Magazine’s Style & Design as one of the, “100 Most Influential People & Ideas Behind Green Design” in the category of beauty.
In keeping with her commitment to all things natural and her high standards for ethics in manufacturing, labeling and marketing of natural and organic products, Brenda was invited to serve as a founding steering committee member, advising The Natural Product Association in developing the first-ever US standard for natural personal care products.

Nathalie Cecilia Bamboo-Fusion - Founder |
Born in Nimes, roman city located in Provence (South France), Nathalie Cecilia is the pioneer of bamboo massage in the spa industry. With a master’s degree in Philosophy and Languages from “Universitee Des Lettres De Montpellier”, she began her career as a teacher and translator.
Traveling since the age of 16 around Europe and later around the world, pursuing her passion for discovering new horizons, she decided to change her career and cross the Atlantic Ocean to explore and experience life in America.
Keeping her goal in mind, to help people, she attended Sarasota School of Massage Therapy. Three months after her graduation in 2004, she opened Two Touch Company a Thai Studio and Massage Therapy office in Sarasota, Florida.
Many of Nathalie’s clients were asking for deep tissue treatments. She began to experience pain and fatigue in her hands and wrists. When she started experimenting with bamboo to assist her with deep tissue work, she noticed that her pain subsided even though she increased her workload. Her clients loved the new luxurious treatment and great results.
Her new development is simple, but a genuine and effective new way to perform massage. The tools are crafted from bamboo and are used like extensions of her hands. She also found an effective way to warm the bamboo which feels luxurious and the heat helps to penetrate tight muscles. The bamboo tool set can be used on the table in a full-body massage and also through clothing on the chair. The tools are easy to clean and sanitize in between clients and are lightweight to carry.
Today, her goal is to help massage therapists provide deep massage without hurting themselves. Avoiding repetitive injuries such as carpal tunnel and reducing stress on thumbs, wrists and hands are crucial in extending your career as a massage therapist. The trademarked modality is taught as a Continuing Education workshop across the country and at private spas/resorts.
Her newest creation is called Bamboo-Visage and is the perfect finishing touch to complete a full body massage using bamboo. It is a unique and relaxing way to perform massage on the face using a delicate specialized bamboo and rattan tool set.

Lauren Padawer Alaskan Glacial Mud - Founder |
It was a love of Alaskan wilderness, a passion for high quality products and dedication to sustainability that inspired President and Founder Lauren Padawer to start Alaska Glacial Mud Co. The idea for Alaska Glacial Mud Co. in particular was born in 2001 following an extraordinary rafting trip down the Copper River where Lauren participated as part of a group of social and environmental activists who were trying to raise awareness about threats to the Watershed. Little did she know that a foot soak in silky glacial pools amidst bear tracks and the call of wild eagles along the Copper River would become her future.
After finishing college with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Washington University in St. Louis, she knew her life’s work would keep her close to nature. At 23 years old, the big mountains and the prospect of preserving unspoiled wilderness won her over. She moved to the remote coastal fishing town of Cordova, Alaska in 2002 to work for the nonprofit organization, Eyak Preservation Council whose mission includes protecting pristine areas of the Copper River and Prince William Sound from unsustainable development.
As the Copper River grew closer to her heart, Lauren started thinking about the impact a small business could make to raise awareness and philanthropically support wild salmon habitat in the Copper River Watershed. There was no hesitation. Between rafting trips down the Copper River, mudslinging on its silty banks and listening to Alaskans joke about the buttery spa quality of the abundant sludge, Lauren was inspired to launch Alaska Glacial Mud Co. While she toiled away on her business plan, she deepened her ties to the Copper River working as a salmon biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and then as a commercial salmon fisherwoman.
Finally, in 2006, drawing on her management skills and biology background, Lauren launched Alaska Glacial Mud Co. to bring the luxurious line of mud masques and mineral soaps to a growing skin care and spa market focused on natural and organic products. Alaska Glacial Mud Co. highlights local and Pacific Northwest botanicals and does not use synthetic fragrances, colors, or fillers in their products. The packaging is recyclable and the company processes mud using green community hydropower, which contains 60 skin-loving major and trace elements to promote healthy skin cell regeneration. The company also donates 10% of profits to land preservation, habitat restoration, environmental education, and sustainable community development.
Alaska Glacial Mud Co. is dedicated to high quality ingredients and product performance backed by a commitment of sustainability to the land and the people who depend on its bountiful resources.

Kathryn Petty White Lion Tea - President |
§
From an early age, Kathryn Petty, Founder of White Lion Tea knew she was meant to be an entrepreneur. “I was always the kid who set up the lemon aide stand at the end of the block”.
In college, she parleyed a nursing scholarship into a dual degree that also earned her a bachelor’s degree in business, her first love. Starting with State Farm Insurance Company at the age of 17, she eventually started her own agency. Over the course of 15 years she developed a multimillion-dollar business and sold the agency in 1994.
Her passion for life and natural entrepreneurial talent led her to a second career in the “lifestyle” industry, namely tea. Kathryn founded Sir Aubrey’s Tea Company in 1998, but it wasn’t until 2000 that the dominant White Lion brand emerged. “Having traveled the world extensively and lived in London, I could see that a simple pleasure like quality tea was underappreciated and underdeveloped in the US. I believed that the time had come for Americans to explore and expect fine teas as part of their daily lives.”
White Lion Teas are served in some of the world’s finest resorts and spas and have earned a customer base that is the envy of the industry. White Lion has recently aligned with Universal Companies to provide distribution to spas and salons across the United States and abroad. |
