Bruce then developed AIS; The Spa Method and broke it down into three 30 minutes routines; upper body and neck, lower body and hands and feet. All 3 routines were designed to be performed on a massage table in a supine or side line position which gives maximum comfort to your client and provides the benefits of a clinical modality. the first two routines are covered in detail in this webinar.

Advanced Class - Skin Peel for Acne, Aging, and Hyperpigmented Skin Christine Heathman 67 minutes 9/1/2010
Join Christine Heathman for this advanced class in skin peeling. Christine reviews the structure of the skin and how photoaging of the skin is determined by by our heredity and our life style choices.

One of the primary reasons that clients request a peel is hyperpigmentation. Ms. Heathman explains what hyperpigmentation is, its causes, and how peels can improve its appearance. She also discusses acne and how peels can help bring it under control.

Ms. Heathman provides a detailed explanation of what peels are, how they work, and the stages of wound healing.

In order to select the appropriate peel for a client, the esthetician must take into consideration the following: the current condition of the ; Glogau photoaging classification; Fitzpatrick type; lifestyle; skin thickness; history of scarring, pigmentation, and skin care; current medications; and any allergies or immune disorders. Estheticians must realize that no single peel is suitable for all clients, and although superificial peels will correct superficial problems such as skin color or texture abnormalities, they will not correct deep problems.

Finally, for optimum results and maintenace of the results of a peel, the client must be educated about protecting the skin from further photoaging. Peeling is only one step in maintaining beautiful skin and continuing care is imperative.

An Epidemic of Over-Exfoliation Florence Barrett-Hill 17 minutes 6/7/2010
“I have a concern; and that is, we are observing an epidemic of over-exfoliation in the beauty therapy industry. It is the “lets peel it” mind set that so many therapists have as a “first choice” treatment modality that is my greatest concern.

It is as if the industry has forgotten that one of the ethics of the beauty therapy profession is to “preserve the integrity of the epidermis” at all times. Have we also forgotten that the epidermis, a major line of skin barrier defense contains many intricate systems that work in synergy with one another to protect the body? Florence Barrett-Hill

Join Florence as she discusses the skin and its function as a defense mechanism against all of the environmental challenges we face every day. She explores the dangers of over-exfoliating the skin, how peel sshould be used as a tool, but not the only answer to skin care concerns, and the importance of repairing the skin before performing a peel.
